In class we talked about where the Mormons started and why they came to Utah!! This is important for the next fifty years of Utah's history. How Utah was settled
Grid System: there is an illustration below. Remember that the four block in the center of town were mainly religous, government, and commerce. Each block on the grid was split to hold eight housing lots. Spoke System: this illustrates how the towns were settled they were all about 50 miles apart initially.
Other Issues: Mormon Battalion, Handcart Companies, Proposed State of Deseret, Perpetual Emigration Fund, Foreign Immigrants, Crickets Infest Utah and other stories.
